Syncing files

I’m by no means a server specialist, however as a web developer, and probably 80% back end developer, in more than one occasion I’ve been required to deal with server setups, migrations etc.

So recently, I’ve started using a really cool command which is nothing new for the Linux folks out there, but for me I found it really useful and simple.

Rsync!

It allows you to do all sort of clever file manipulations, and to synchronize data across servers. A quick example here is:

rsync –update -r -v -e ssh /var/www/vhosts user@192.168.1.9:/var/www/vhosts

My next use for this command will probably be to make remote backups of my machine. Let’s see how that goes!
